CAMPING AND THANKSGIVING FEAST
Hard Labor Creek State Park, GA

Troop-499 Thanksgiving Celebration at Hard Labor Creek:  For many years, Troop-499 has had a Thanksgiving celebration that includes not only our Troop-499 scouts and leaders but their families.  It is important for all of us to give thanks for the wonderful things that the Great Scoutmaster has provided.  Troop-499 does this every year at Hard Labor Creek State Park.  The park is located just outside of Social Circle, GA which is far enough away for a nice troop camping weekend but close enough for family members to drive to on Saturday for our Thanksgiving feast.  This feast will start about 5:00 pm on Saturday and everyone is invited.  Scouts, bring your parents and your grandparents.  The menu will include:

Roasted Turkey
Ham
Pork Roast (and maybe a Venison Roast)
Dressing with Gravy
Corn
Black-eyed Peas
Green Beans . . . and surely a few other tasty items.
Iced Tea (sweet and unsweet)
Deserts.

Trip Logistics:  For Troop-499 scouts, this trip will be a car camping trip the weekend of November 7-9, 2008.  Please arrive at the scout hut by 6:00 pm on Friday.  We will load the trailer and leave the scout hut on or before 7:00 (please be on time, we need everyone's help in packing the trailer).  Please make sure you eat before you come as we will not be stopping on the way.  We should be home on Sunday by noon (as always, we will call your parents by cell phone as we get close to the scout hut).  There is no additional cost per scout or adult, this trip is paid completely by the troop.  Menus for Saturday breakfast and lunch and Sunday breakfast will be planned in the patrol setting prior to the trip.

Saturday Dinner:  ALL TROOP-499 PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS ARE INVITED.  Saturday Dinner will start about 5:00 pm.  For all the parents and grandparents that are coming, please plan to arrive at Hard Labor Creek State park around 4:00.  However, you are welcome to come earlier and enjoy the fellowship of our troop and your scouts.  If you have never seen a Troop-499 camp, this will be a good opportunity to see how your scouts camp for a weekend.

Please bring a chair and a warm jacket.  It usually gets cool after the sun goes down so please be prepared.

RSVP:  Last year we had over 100 scouts and family members in attendance.  We really need a head count of folks coming this year so that we can plan to have the right amount of food.  Please let us know you are coming by registering with our Scoutmaster or by using our on-line sign up sheet.  Please place the total number of people coming in the PATROL NAME section of the on-line sign up sheet.

Photos:  For a review of our 2006 celebration, please check out the 2006 THANKSGIVING DINNER PHOTOS from last year.

Dress Warmly:  Scouts, please be sure to dress warmly and bring a warm sleeping bag.  This weekend always gets chilly and we want everyone to be warm.
